National Golf Academy Talk: How to Improve Golf Performance
NGCC invited Professor Hung Tsung-Min, a master of academic research on sports psychology, to give a seminar titled "Managing Brainwave and Heartbeat to Improve Golf Performance" which was attended by nearly 100 people.
NGCC specially organized this event to improve the mental skills of players. The three-hour seminar used sports science to introduce psychological training to strengthen personal sports performance and improve athletic ability.
Hung Tsung-Min proposed that athletes should have "accurate control and good performance under pressure." He shared an example when he participated in the study of psychological characteristics of US Army sniper training during his Ph.D. study period in the United States on how to control the brain waves under high pressure and avoid serious mistakes caused by misjudgement.
The first question Hung Tsung-Min raised in the class was, "How did you feel at the peak of your performance?" He also mentioned that the most important keyword in golf is "focus", and gave a new concept: "In a golf game, it is not that the more focused the better, it is more on “just right".
At the end of the seminar, Hung Tsung-Min said that the changes in brain waves and heartbeats are based on data to identify when athletes face different situations and use scientific instruments to let the athletes understand the response of their bodies when they are under pressure, and giving professional training, to control the body and mind, to achieve normal performance on the spot.
With the support of Roy Wu, general manager of the National Golf Country Club, this event was arranged by Zeng Xiufeng, the head coach of the National Golf Academy who is also an assistant professor at Taipei City University of Science & Technology, TPCU.
The seminar was broadcast on the website of the National Golf Academy’s fan club.
Hung Tsung-Min's efforts in academic research was awarded a Fellow of the National Academy of Sports Science, which is recognized by an international research institution for nearly a century. His achievements are almost the Nobel Prize in sports. Currently, there are only four non-American Chinese who have earned this accolade.
Professional players Hsu Wei-ling, Babe Liu and Lin Tzi-Chi also attended the seminar while Hung Tsung-Min agreed to attend another seminar to share more psychological related theories and methods of relaxation to players.
